Work Permit after Study in Germany

After completing their studies, students can apply for an 18-month residence permit, which begins as soon as a student graduates. Once students accept a job offer with a certain income bracket and field, they can apply for an EU Blue Card to stay in Germany. If they intend to live permanently in Germany, they can also apply for a settlement permit, two years after they get their EU Blue Card.

Aptitude Tests
German universities expect non-EU students to pass TestAs. (external link). This test evaluates the language skills, general skills, and subject-specific skills for the study program you have chosen. The language test is taken on-screen, while the other two tests are paper-based. You can take this test in authorized centres only.

German Language Test
The first requirement for studying in Germany is learning the German language. If your medium of instruction is in English, you need to pass TOEFL or IELTS. But, if your course is taught in German, you have to pass TestDAF or DSH in India.

The application process
Indian students require submission of the following documents planning to pursue undergraduate/graduate courses:

  • Entrance Test scores for non-EU students
  • Transcript of Grades of the previous highest educational level
  • Proof of Language
  • Proficiency ID
  • Valid Passport
  • Copies of Letter of Motivation

You can expect to receive a formal acceptance or rejection in around one to two months after the application deadline has passed. On receipt of the admission letter, you can apply for a visa.

You need to prove that you have at least €8,700 per year to cover living expenses for visa requirements. You can open a blocked bank account to give a sense of security to the concerned authorities.

Getting health insurance alongside all the required documents is compulsory.

The last step is to enrol at the university followed by travel arrangements.
